BOXSENTRY RELEASES INNOVATIVE SOLUTON TO HELP ASIAN ENTERPRISE REDUCE OPERATING EXPENSES AND INCREASE REVENUE
Spam filters are currently costing business an estimated US$3.5 billion a year
SINGAPORE, October 31, 2007 – BoxSentry Pte Ltd today announced the latest release of its unique RealMail™ solution that significantly enhances email deliverability and security for enterprises throughout the Asia Pacific and the Middle East.
This latest release comes after a series of distribution and other business partnerships were signed over the past three months to deploy RealMail in key countries throughout the region. Over the next six months, BoxSentry expects to make inroads into Singapore, Thailand, Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Indonesia and China, as well as several countries in the Middle East.
RealMail is a next generation email authentication solution that enables enterprises to counter external and internal attacks, including spam, on their networks while still ensuring near-100% delivery of legitimate emails. It is unique in the way that it handles Asian languages that use a multi-byte character set, such as Chinese, Thai, Japanese, Korean, Bahasa Indonesia, Bahasa Melayu, and Arabic.
According to Opus One, an enterprise network product test specialist, some popular current generation email security solutions cause false positive (error) rates as high as 0.85%. This means one in every 120 legitimate business emails is lost in transmission due to a classification error by a spam filter. This rate can be even higher when emails contain any non-English characters.
As current anti-spam and email security solutions do not work as effectively in non-English language environments, especially with Asian languages, or with emails containing more than a single language, the percentage loss experienced by enterprises in Asia tends to be even higher.
BoxSentry CEO Manish Goel said, “According to Ferris Research, lost emails cost businesses in excess of US$3.5 billion each year.” He added that “ultimately, the revenue lost as a consequence of damaged business relationships is probably many times higher”.
Mr Goel commented: “Businesses have come to believe that these lost emails are simply ‘a necessary evil’ in the war against spam and other online security threats. BoxSentry strongly disagrees with this misconception and has developed an approach to remedy this.” Industry experts generally acknowledge that between 85-90% of global email traffic is spam. To counteract this growing flood of spam, the email security industry is increasing the use of blocklists and more aggressive content filters. BoxSentry contends this will result in a corresponding increase in the rate of false positives, or increased levels of undelivered legitimate email.
BoxSentry’s RealMail takes a different approach to that employed by current generation security solutions. Its primary focus is on email deliverability. RealMail achieves this by integrating automatically self-learning accept lists, sophisticated heuristics, positive reputation data and sender authentication methods. This results in emails being intelligently classified, allowing legitimate emails to be ‘fast-tracked’ to intended recipients. Consequently, businesses are better protected against unwanted emails on their networks.
Enterprises with existing security solutions can integrate RealMail as an additional layer of security into their infrastructure, making implementation simple and low-risk. With this set-up, RealMail can be utilised to deliver legitimate email traffic, while their existing system can continue to provide regular email filtering.
Another benefit of RealMail is that it does not perform keyword content filtering, which means the user’s privacy is fully protected, a factor that has been favorably received by BoxSentry’s government and financial services customers around the region.
“The number of organisations today using email for mission critical communication is significant, and growing exponentially across Asia Pacific and the Middle East,” said Mr Goel. “RealMail’s next generation approach to email deliverability will ensure that this vital communications medium remains highly reliable, safe, and secure."
